ART CRITICS ARE NOW CUTE AND FLUFFY: BEHOLD THE NEW AI DOG

As the world continues to discover more ways to use artificial intelligence, a German artist decides to use his power for good. Take a look at the new AI Dog: A.I.C.C.A.!

In the midst of all the dark, scary AI developments and theories, there is also a friendlier, perhaps fluffier side to the phenomenon.

The Artificially Intelligent Critical Canine, known as A.I.C.C.A., is the latest creation of Mario Klingemann. The German AI artist debuted his new invention at Madrid’s Colección SOLO. The organisation has an initiative ONKAOS which supports the creation of new media. Klingemann collaborated with robotics engineering company Maedcore to perfect the puppy.

Despite the dog’s Insta-level cute appearance, it also has an incredible ability to critique art.

How Does The AI Dog Work?

A complex set of algorithms reside within A.I.C.C.A. which enables the machine to select and analyse the artworks before it. It is programmed to consider factors that human art critics would typically use too. These includes composition, colour, style, and themes.

The robot has a bank of knowledge regarding visual material and art writing stored, and with the help of ChatGPT, generates concise written pieces about the artworks. Quite remarkable, isn’t it?

To add some humour, Klingemann decided to program the dog to ‘poop’ out the written texts on small strips of paper for spectators to read.

One might think the artist is making light of art critics by showing the world that even a robot can do their job. However, Klingemann settles that debate:

“Actually, I think art critics play a very important role… A bad critique is always better than none at all,”

According to him, it is better to be noticed in one way or another than ignored entirely.
