Burton is exiting the brand after an impressive run of over two decades; closing a chapter of the talented designer’s journey at the British fashion house.

Alexander McQueen’s Spring/Summer 2024 fashion show, appearing at Paris Fashion Week, is set to be Burton’s grand finale for the brand.

It’s Truly the End of an Era

Sarah Burton McQueen’s fabulous world in ’96, armed with her artistic prowess from Central Saint Martins College of Art and Design. Quickly, Burton rose from intern to McQueen’s right-hand girl. In 2000, she was promoted to head of womenswear. And a whole decade later, she snapped the title of creative director.

Burton is famous for infusing McQueen’s high-octane style with her own fabulous sense of femininity. In 2011, she snagged the Designer of the Year Award at the British Fashion Awards. And then in 2019, she received the CFDA’s International Award.

Gianfilippo Testa, Alexander McQueen’s chief executive officer, says, “We would like to express our immense gratitude to Sarah for writing such an important chapter in the history of the Alexander McQueen house. Sarah’s contribution over the past 26 years will leave an indelible mark.”

François-Henri Pinault, chairman and CEO of Kering, adds,

“Through her own experience, sensitivity and talent, Sarah continued to evolve the artistic expression of this iconic house. She kept and continued Lee’s heritage, attention to detail and unique vision, while adding her own personal, highly creative touch.”

Alexander McQueen did not disclose who will take Burton’s place, though the brand did confirm the announcement will come in “due course.”
