Already garnering 8.3 million views, the second trailer offers the audience a deeper glimpse into the storyline of young Willy Wonka.

The story is nothing new, being adapted from Roald Dahl’s 1964 children’s novel “Charlie and the Chocolate Factory” and into a film staring Gene Wilder in 1971 before being remade in 2005 with Johnny Depp. This new film  directed by Paul King will be a fresh take on the well-known storyline.

While many question the casting of the film, King told Rolling stone that Chalamet didn’t even need to audition for the role after seeing his high school videos on YouTube. King also says he was a Chalamet “stan” and knew he had potential to pull off the Wonka role.

“It was a straight offer because he’s great and he was the only person in my mind who could do it. But because he’s Timothée Chalamet and his life is so absurd, his high school musical performances are on YouTube and have hundreds of thousands of views. So I knew from stanning for Timmy Chalamet that he could sing and dance really well,” he says.

King further comments, “I knew that was in his arsenal, but I didn’t know how good he was. When I spoke to him he was quite keen. He’d done tap dancing in high school and he was like, ‘I’d quite like to show people I can do that.’”

Speaking on the film itself, King says, “Wonka” is a “proper” musical that feels like “a really fun hat off to the golden age of MGM musicals.”

The film also featured an iconic cast with Hugh Grant playing the tiny Oopma Loompa as well as Oscar winner Olivia Colman.
Chalamet will also be acting alongside Sally Hawkins, Keegan-Michael Key, Matthew Baynton, Matt Lucas, Rowan Atkinson, Jim Carter, Natasha Rothwell, Simon Farnaby, Paterson Joseph, Tom Davis, Rakhee Thakrar, Justin Edwards, Colin O’Brien, Ellie White, Freya Parker and Kobna Holdbrook-Smith.

The film releases December 15th, 2023. Check out the trailer below:
