DAY 41 “HISTORY OF SIAM” ’80DAYS’ Series with Paul G Roberts

Bangkok is the capital city of Thailand, a country located in Southeast Asia. It is a bustling metropolis with a rich history and culture that dates back many centuries. Thailand, formerly known as Siam, has a long and fascinating history that has shaped the country into what it is today.

The earliest known civilization in what is now Thailand dates back to around 4,000 BCE. These early people were hunter-gatherers who lived in small communities and relied on the natural resources around them for their survival. Over time, these communities grew and developed into more complex societies with their own unique cultures and traditions.

One of the most significant early civilizations in Thailand was the Dvaravati Kingdom, which emerged in the 6th century CE. This kingdom was located in central Thailand and was known for its distinctive art and architecture, as well as its thriving trade with neighboring regions.

In the 13th century, a new kingdom emerged in northern Thailand called the Sukhothai Kingdom. This kingdom is considered by many to be the birthplace of Thai civilization and culture, as it was during this time that the Thai language and script were developed. The Sukhothai Kingdom was also known for its impressive temples and monuments, which can still be seen today at the Sukhothai Historical Park.

The Sukhothai Kingdom was eventually succeeded by the Ayutthaya Kingdom, which ruled over much of Thailand from the mid-14th century until the late 18th century. During this time, Ayutthaya became a major center of trade and commerce, and the kingdom’s rulers built many impressive temples and palaces. However, Ayutthaya was also frequently at war with neighboring kingdoms and empires, and it was eventually sacked and destroyed by the Burmese in 1767.

After the fall of Ayutthaya, a new kingdom emerged in central Thailand called the Thonburi Kingdom. This kingdom was founded by a military leader named Taksin, who successfully repelled the Burmese and reunified much of Thailand under his rule. Taksin was eventually overthrown by a general named Chao Phraya Chakri, who founded the current ruling dynasty of Thailand, the Chakri Dynasty.

Under the Chakri Dynasty, Thailand underwent significant modernization and development. The country’s capital was moved from Thonburi to Bangkok, and the city quickly became a major center of commerce and culture. Bangkok was also home to many impressive temples and palaces, including the famous Grand Palace, which was built in the late 18th century.

Throughout the 19th and early 20th centuries, Thailand modernized rapidly, with the introduction of new technologies and practices from the West. The country’s rulers also worked to modernize the legal and political systems, with the adoption of a new constitution in 1932 that established a constitutional monarchy.

Thailand was able to maintain its independence during the colonial era, despite pressure from European powers. However, the country was occupied by Japan during World War II, and it was not until after the war that Thailand was able to reassert its independence and resume its development.

Today, Bangkok is a thriving metropolis with a rich culture and history. The city is home to many impressive temples and palaces, as well as modern skyscrapers and shopping centers. Thailand is also known for its delicious cuisine, vibrant nightlife, and welcoming people, and it remains a popular destination welcoming many millions each year.

This solo one man odyssey, was crafted in the shadow of Jules Verne’s immortal prose ‘Around the World in 80 Days’, but more than a nod to literary genius—it is an homage to the insatiable human thirst for discovery.

A thirst some poetically inclined termed ‘Wanderlust’.

In my grand narrative of no less than 80 episodes, the world unfolds as a tapestry of cultures and wonders, we are reminded that the true wealth of life is not in the jingle of coins or the accolades of society. It is in the bonds we forge, the love that we kindle amidst the whirlwind of our pursuits.

Thanks for watching! See you in the next adventure! ✈️????

To those who would call my quest a folly, I say: life’s tapestry is woven with threads of experiences, not the gold of coins. For travel is the grand tutor of life’s lessons, unfurling the scrolls of the world before our eager eyes. And as I often say, a solitary day ablaze with adventure can outshine years of monochrome routine.

This, my friends, is the essence of my ‘80DAYS’—not merely a series of films, but a celebration of life in its most vivid form.

I will be releasing 2 new film episodes each week. There is so much more to follow. Subscribe to “YouTube FashionIndustryBroadcast” so you will not miss being notified of each drop. And if you feel it LIKE and COMMENT too.

Humbly yours in Wanderlust,
