A Galactic Treat For China

For the first time, all six Star Wars films will be screened in China as a great marathon event, sending audiences to the galaxy far, far away. The films will be played at the 18th Shanghai International Film Festival (SIFF) between 13 and 21 June.

The reason behind the screenings is to promote Star Wars: The Force Awakens, being released this December. Working with Walt Disney Pictures in bringing the films on-screen, SIFF organisers explained that the epic space saga was the “greatest sci-fi masterpiece in film history.”

Unlike the second trilogy/prequels, the original trilogy (A New Hope, The Empire Strikes Back and Return of the Jedi) weren’t released in China, so this special screening will be a special treat for the audience – especially those who have been waiting for them and those who didn’t fully understand the story because of the missing three films. Hmm, perhaps that’s why the second trilogy didn’t do well.
