2016 has proven to be a busy year for Hollywood star Gerard Butler. Having only recently appeared in Gods of Egypt and London Has Fallen, and set to appear in the soon to release The Headhunter’s Calling in which he will appear alongside Willem Dafoe, now Butler has been cast in the drama crime production Den of Thieves.
Butler already has a standing relationship with the man set to direct having worked with Christian Gudegast on LHF where he contributed as co-writer.
The story follows a criminal, or criminals who, while plotting a heist to rob the Los Angeles Federal Reserve , wind up trapped between two different criminal factions. On face value the plot has an Ocean’s elevenish kind of feel but whether the final product will pan out as effectively will remain to be seen. The project is still deep in its early stages and there is little news as who will be appearing alongside Butler but it has been confirmed that Sam Worthington will be involved in a starring role. What role Butler will play is also up in the air but from a guess it can be assumed that he will be the criminal plotting the heist. Here’s hoping anyway.
Very little is known about the project but what we do know is that it was picked up by SFX Entertainment and alongside Gudegast who is also writing, Paul Scheuring (Prison Break) is also set to co-write the screenplay.
Den of Thieves will be produced by Mark Canton, Glenn Fieg, Ryan Kavanaugh, Tucker Tooley and Alan Siegel, while Butler himself acting as executive producer along with Chris Bender, JC Spink.
Butler is also due to appear in Geostorm, a science fiction disaster movie, the film is currently in post-production and unfortunately will not hit movie screens until 2017.
