Jeremy Scott sure knows how to make a statement which was clearly “couture is an attitude, not a price point” as his t-shirt declared when he closed his show. For his FW17 collection Scott lined the runway with cardboard and sent his opening model Kendal Jenner out in what was a cardboard box inspired outfit that played on the theme that suggested that one woman’s trash is another woman’s treasure or in this case, designer outfit which let’s face it, is basically the same thing.
The interesting choice of inspiration didn’t stop there with his models stepping out in bike wheels, candle holders, shower curtains, carpet, watches, duct tape and a garbage bag topped with an actual trash can lid as a hat. ‘Fragile’ And ‘This Side Up’ were labelled on some of the pieces showcasing a moving day feel that added to the playful theme while patterns and collaged prints were pieced together to add some colour to the what would otherwise be a nude collection.
Go big or go home was the aim of the game for this designer this season as Scott pulled out a star-studded line up of supermodels, featuring Kendal Jenner, Gigi and Bella Hadid, Stella Maxwell, Romee Strijd and Elsa Hosk who all fiercely stormed down the runway turning heads.
What we loved most about this collection was the message behind it, being that fashion is not how much you pay for it, what you wear or who you wear but how YOU wear it and make it your own.
