After launching a plus size range just last week the sportswear giant, Nike has released a video showing its commitment to diversity and inclusivity having designed The Pro Hijab, the first ever sportswear item designed specifically for female Muslim athletes.
A statement from Nike read:
“The Nike Pro Hijab may have been more than a year in the making, but its impetus can be traced much further back, to an ongoing cultural shift that has seen more women than ever embracing sport,”
Being made from lightweight mesh fabric, it features strategic, tiny holes which allow it optimal breathability, especially for the warmer weather. Also featuring an elongated back to ensure it doesn’t come untucked.
Professional figure skater Zahra Lari was one of the professional athletes who tested Nike’s hijab and stated:
“I was thrilled and a bit emotional to see Nike prototyping a hijab, I’ve tried so many different hijabs for performance, and … so few of them actually work for me. But once I put it on and took it for a spin on the ice, I was blown away by the fit and the light weight.”
Set to be released in Spring 2018 Nike took to social channels to tease the trailer for the campaign ‘What Will They Say About You’ which features women athletes, skateboarding, running, boxing, and swimming to name a few. The clip highlights the stigma surrounding women in sport and comes off as inspirational in the sense that women everywhere have just as much right as anybody else to live the life they love, passion, hobbies, talent and all.
