Tkay Maidza has released her new track ‘Glorious’ after it was premiered on the finale of the iconic HBO television series Girls.
The infamous creator of Girls, Lena Dunham, expressed her admiration of Tkay when she personally reached out to the Adelaide rapper to request a song for a party scene in the episode.
Tkay Maidza’s career has been thriving with the release of her first album in late 2016 titled TKAY to chart success. The song ‘Glorious’ was originally produced for the album but was instead sent to Dunham who loved it. It is easy to imagine channelling the confidence and attitude of Maizda’s music to dance through the night to the anthem new party track.
Maidza has expressed, “I love the show and it’s really crazy that they know me but I’m excited to see the track in there and for people to hear it.”
The Zimbabwe born Maizda rose to fame after the release of the catchy single ‘Brontosaurus’. From there, her burgeoning career was fuelled by EP Switch Tapes in 2014 which spawned the hits ‘U-Huh’, ’Switch Lanes’, ‘Ghost’ and ‘MO.B’. Her most recent album has solidified Maidza as one of the best lyricists coming out of Australian rap right now. The album also included a feature from the American artist Killer Mike, who is one-half of the acclaimed duo Run The Jewels and is widely considered one of the most influential and talented modern rappers.
Maizda has also been working with the sportswear giant Nike as the face of their Air Max campaign. Prior to her music career, Maizda had already had a successful tennis career and was also chosen to feature in a recent Nike campaign that shared the stories of inspirational women and the women who inspire them for their Beautiful X Powerful Collection.
