Deadpool, Star-Lord, and whoever Peter Dinklage is about to play in Infinity War were once names that were relegated to the deep corners of comic book lore but have now become common household heroes. So much so, that FXX has ordered 10 episodes of a Deadpool animated series from another once-obscure name, Donald Glover.
The tireless polymath alongside brother and fellow writer, Stephen Glover, will act as showrunners, producers and writers for the show.
We’ll also be seeing the second season of Glover’s Atlanta this year, his turn as Lando Calrissian in the anticipated Star Wars Han Solo origin film, as well as a mystery role in July’s Spiderman: Homecoming.
This is the second show that Marvel TV and FX will collaborate on, the first being Legion (another X-Men spin-off) which has been renewed for a second season. FX have unprecedented faith in Glover’s ability after the critical success of Atlanta, and for the genre after the impressive reception from their recent superhero offering, Legion. The network has given Glover an exclusive overall production role, giving him the power to create an unspecified number of shows outside of Atlanta.
The Deadpool animated series is currently set for a 2018 release, and a voice cast is as yet unannounced. Glover has taken his vocal talents to the movies in the upcoming The Lion King as the voice of Simba, so who knows? He may be piling yet another iconic role onto his heaping plate.
