Kesha has released an emotional piano ballad called ‘Praying’. It comes after she announces the release of her new album Rainbow which will grace your ears on August 11th.
After what we can only imagine as the most trying past couple of years for Kesha with her facing setbacks in her sexual-assault case against Dr. Luke and protracted legal battle to be released from her contract, she is officially back and releasing music, the first being her new single ‘Praying’ which is a huge leap from her previous hits ‘Tik Tok’ and ‘Your Love Is My Drug’. (I mean, huge). The song will most likely give you goosebumps as she tells a story of what listeners can only assume is inspired by her personal battle.
The song is accompanied by an emotional video clip that helps viewers visualise her journey as she runs from pig-masked men and destroys televisions displaying negative societal expectations.
“Am I dead? Or is this one of those dreams? Those horrible dreams that seem like they last forever? If I am alive, why? Why? If there is a God or whatever, something, somewhere, why have I been abandoned by everyone and everything I’ve ever known? I’ve ever loved? Stranded. What is the lesson? What is the point? God, give me a sign, or I have to give up. I can’t do this anymore. Please just let me die. Being alive hurts too much.”
She speaks these words at the beginning of her music video setting the overall tone for the song. It ends up being quite empowering and full of colour, emphasising love and happy endings, despite a hard and dark uphill battle.
Unfortunately, with us being on the outside, we will never know the extent of the drama between record labels and their talents. Really, in a case with such a personal element to it as this one, it’s none of our business. However, all we know is that Kesha is taking a stand and working through a painful musical drought that her fans are fully supporting.
