Shoe designer Manolo Blahnik will release a documentary narrated by himself that outlines his journey and achievements in the industry.
The documentary, entitled Manolo: The Boy Who Made Shoes For Lizards, is directed by Manolo’s long time friend and industry expert Michael Roberts. It will explore the Spanish designer’s career milestones over forty years, including his childhood obsession with lizards (and how he apparently made shoes for them).
For those of you who aren’t aware, Manolo Blahnik is a pretty big deal. The Manolo brand is famous worldwide. In fact he’s considered the best shoe designer of both the 20th and 21st centuries. Having created over 25,000 designs in his career, Manolo kept every single one of them. They’re arranged in order of date and take up cupboards in two whole house’s worth of space. Despite this, he’s got no plans to stop, and enjoys spending time in the factory where his designs take shape. His shoes were famously worn by Princess Diana, which is also covered in the documentary.
The trailer includes the likes of Anna Wintour, Naomi Campbell and Rihanna, who all swear by his shoes. Wintour states: “I can’t remember the last time I wore anybody else’s shoes, I don’t even look at them”. He’s also referred to as “a poet” and “the king of shoes”, and the documentary reveals how much he loves his craft.
