Brooklyn-jammers LCD Soundsystem and Aussie enigma Nick Murphy (FKA Chet Faker – can we stop writing that? Is everyone on-board with the name change yet?) have announced they’ll be teaming up to tour our shores in February 2018.
Frontier Touring are going out water-guns blazing this summer, treating us Aussie and Kiwi groovers to a tasty trans-Tasman tour with LCD Soundsystem and Nick Murphy at the helm.
‘That’s exactly what we need! Some sure-fire beats to spice up those unrelenting 40+ degree February days’, I hear you say. Don’t stress, the Sydney leg of the tour will be swinging by Hordern Pavilion so it won’t all be a sweat-fest… unless, it sells out… which it likely will. Let’s face it, February downunder is a living barbecue wherever you go – and what better way to lose your weight’s worth in sweat than by grooving down to some chill synths and beats?
LCD dropped their fourth album (the first in seven years) at the start of September, and have been tearing up the global tour route ever since. It seems as though these guys been around since the dawn of time (more accurately, 2002… so, close enough). Yet with the release of ‘American Dream’ LCD have proven that while the core sound of James Murphy’s vocals remain relatively unaltered, the band have evolved to encompass a whole new era of sound. It’s groovy and it’s gritty, but at its core is the same spirit that ‘defined a dancefloor generation’ (Frontier).
Similarly, Nick Murphy recently dropped new single ‘Medication’, a taster for his highly-anticipated album due for release in 2018. His ‘Missing Links’ EP released in May saw Nick bridge a gap between his previous music under the ‘Chet Faker’ moniker and his new edgier and visceral sound. Nick’s forthcoming album will be the first to be released under his own name.
If you’ve been a little parched on the live music front and/or missed LCD Soundsystem when they were here way back in July – now is your chance! As triple j aptly put it, this insanely good tour is ‘two Murphy’s for the price of one.’
