Yep, Colgate Beef Lasagne existed; surprising the frozen dinner never took off. Then again, who wants to eat frozen food from a toothpaste brand?
Bad ideas, mistakes and commercial flops, the Museum of Failure will now showcase the world’s most epic fails. The exhibition first kicked off in Sweden, before opening its doors in Hollywood this month featuring a collection of more than 100 items that never took off.
Curator and clinical psychologist Samuel West said: “I decided to open a Museum of Failure because I’m so tired of the success stories.” Speaking to NBC Los Angeles, Dr West said he scoured Craigslist and eBay to put together the collection, and some of the items on display also came from donations.
“Many items are either hard to find or simply something we’ve never heard of since they’ve been lost in time, so the donations are really incredible.”
He added that he aims to make people aware that failure is a necessary part of innovation.
So, what can you expect at this madcap museum? Apple’s Newton MessagePad and a Donald Trump board game named “I’m Back And Your Fired!”
Other items include Crystal Pepsi, a clear version of the caramel coloured drink. Heinz’s EZ Squirt purple or green coloured ketchup, and Coca-Cola’s short-lived marriage of Diet Coke and coffee mixture called BlāK.
And lest we forget, the controvercial Bic Pens “For Her” as well as Harley-Davidson perfume.
The museum also has an entire wall of failed Oreo flavours, ranging from peanut butter and jelly to red velvet or chocolate strawberry. There’s also a “Failure Confession Wall,” where guests can post about their own personal flops and offer their suggestions on other epic fails.
The Museum of Failure is open seven days a week at Hollywood & Highland, 10am-10pm from Monday through Saturday, and 10am-7pm on Sunday.
