Belle Kerr and Ariella Jelic are the two Sydney ladies embarking on the trip of a lifetime: driving from Maroubra in Sydney, to Kakadu National Park in the Northern Territory (and back again) all in the name of learning about, and raising money for mental health.Â
It’s a hell of a long way. And as if that doesn’t sound a journey in itself, Belle and Ariella have also set themselves the challenge of only being able to spend what they themselves earn from busking (they’re both charitable and musically talented). Everything else is being donated to three major mental health organisations: Beyond Blue, Black Dog and Headspace.
Then, because they’re highly ambitious and driving/busking their way 8,000+ km isn’t enough mental stimulation, along the way they’re going to be filming a documentary. The film is titled A Fool’s Paradise, and aims to explore how and why different cultural groups define happiness. They’ll interview people from all walks of life, from inner-city slickers to Indigenous Australians living in Kakadu National Park. The film will premiere during ‘Mental Health Month’ in October, 2018.
The gals have set themselves the goal of raising $15,000 – all of which will go towards the charities listed above, and the making of the film. For more information on the cause, you can check out their Facebook page. If it’s something you think you’d like to get behind, you can donate here.
Belle and Ariella are also currently looking for corporate sponsorship. If this is something you or your business would like to get behind (or if you want to contribute to the cause in any way) get in touch with them at potatoandbeanproductions@gmail.com.
