Welcome queers, welcome all; the L Word gang is back and ready to serve us some more quality content.
It’s been a long, long while since the L Word ended; six seasons, 71 episodes, and 10 years to be exact. 15 years ago, Showtime made a revolutionary move in shining the spotlight on a group of queer women in Los Angeles. And while they definitely made some missteps, there’s no denying the show’s massive influence and appeal during a time of exclusively heteronormative films and TV shows.
Considering we now exist in a time with increasingly more queer and inclusive content available, the industry isn’t exactly starved for LGBTQ+ stories like it used to be. However, there’s no doubt that The L Word deserved a reboot modelled to fit our current political and social climate.
Taking place in the immediate aftermath of the last episode that aired in 2009, The L Word: Generation Q lets us delve into the lives of three leads from the original series.
Bette is still a killer alpha queer in her perfectly tailored lady suits now running for mayor, Alice has her very own talk show, and our beloved heart-breaker with a heart of gold, Shane, is still wooing the ladies; this time on private jets.
If you’re anything like me, you’re left wondering where the hell Tina is and if we’re FINALLY going to find out who killed Jenny. But please no more scenes with Jenny actually in them, I’ve seen enough of her infuriating character to last me this lifetime and the next.
Take a look at the trailer down below! The L Word: Generation Q airs on Showtime on the 8th of December.
