September marks the beginning of sunnier, warmer weather and Netflix is helping us welcome spring with an array of new film and TV show releases.
September 2019’s line-up is looking gorgeous with gripping original series’, old favourites we just can’t get enough of, and sleeper hits galore.
Grab a drink and some popcorn ladies and gentlemen, we’ve got the list of all the best Netflix films set to drop this month.
Dirty Dancing (1987)
The 1987 cult film that made us fall in love with Jennifer Grey and Patrick Swayze is back on Netflix to satisfy all our night-in-with-a-romantic-flick-and-a-bucket-of-ice-cream needs.
Film quote to entice you: “You just put your pickle on everybody’s plate, college boy, and leave the hard stuff to me.”
Hello Privilege. It’s me: Chelsea (Season One)
Our favourite foul-mouthed comedian, Chelsea Handler, is gracing our screens in this new Netflix special that explores the influence of white privilege within American culture. Before we talk about how this message is brought to you by a white woman herself, Chelsea intends on discussing how she has benefited from her privilege in her life and career.
Film quote to entice you: “I intend for it to be very funny and I intend to hang myself out to dry. I’m a perfect example of the American dream, if you’re white and borderline pretty.”
Tall Girl
We all love a good Netflix original, and Tall Girl is definitely one I’ve kept my eye on. Jodi (Ava Michelle), is a high school student just trying to navigate her life through romance, school, friendships and life. Did I mention she’s the tallest person at her school at 6 foot 1?
Film quote to entice you: “One day Jodi, you’re going to stand up and say: I love all 73 inches of myself.”
Unbelievable
A story based on true events, and one that we’ve seen too many times, this new Netflix original shows a teen reporting and recanting her reported rape only to have her validity questioned.
Film quote to entice you: “You could have detectives from eight different departments investigating eight identical rapes with no clue they’re all chasing the same guy.”
This is Personal
After the inauguration of President Trump (sorry to bring up a foul memory), The Women’s March mobilized millions of women to protest to combat injustice. Originally titled ‘Til Everybody’s Free’, this documentary shows Academy Award-nominated director Amy Berg taking a look at the struggle for intersectional activism among Women’s March leadership.
Fantastic Beasts: The Crimes of Grindelwald
I won’t lie to you guys, there’s a lot of plot holes and issues with this film in terms of its position in the Wizarding World JK Rowling created. But I’d still take any chance to delve back into the magical world that I grew up adoring.
Film quote to entice you: “She has eyes like a salamander.”
Aquaman
Jason Momoa is a shirtless, beach-loving, merman. Need I say more?
Film quote to entice you: “The war is coming to the surface, and I am bringing the wrath of the Seven Seas with me.”
The I-Land (Season One)
Think, Lost meets Hunger Games but if all the characters had their memories wiped clean and still had to fight for their survival from harsh realities of a possibly artificial island. Very Maze Runner-esque, but I’m just here to see Kate Bosworth kick ass.
Film quote to entice you: “If you do something wrong, the island, it pays you back.”
