Tyler, the Creator has dropped a new video for the track “A BOY IS A GUN*” off his recent album, IGOR.
Highly-anticipated by fans, the self-directed music video for A BOY IS A GUN* shows Tyler as his alter-ego, IGOR.
The video takes place in a huge mansion and reflects a luxurious lifestyle. Furthermore, it swiftly moves on to the rapper going through some kind of emotional turmoil, portraying a love triangle wherein Tyler is presumed to be in a romantic relationship with a man who later leaves him[Tyler] for a woman.
Visually, the video is reminiscent of old European cinema and the 2017 film Call Me By Your Name, which Tyler himself is a fan of. Clearly, the old-school 60’s aesthetic doesn’t come as a surprise though because the title A BOY IS A GUN* refers to the 1971 French film, Une aventure de Billy le Kid (A Girl is a Gun).
Ahead of the release, Tyler posted a series of photos on his Instagram back in August that was taken on the set of A BOY IS A GUN* and many fans thought nothing much of them.
However, following the release of the video, fans did a double-take and put two and two together; pointing out in the comments that he teased a music video after all.
