While we would’ve been glued to our screens in anticipation for the Cannes Film Festival right now, had it not been for Covid-19, Spike Lee (who would’ve been head of the jury) has decided to drop the trailer for his latest film to ease our broken hearts.
Lee’s last film, BlacKkKlansman, won the Grand Prix prize in 2018 at Cannes and its follow-up was expected to be a hit at this year’s festival. While it won’t receive a reception at Cannes, the film titled Da 5 Bloods, is still expected to be released on Netflix this year.
Netflix has since given us a trailer for the upcoming film, and with Lee’s name attached to it- you can be sure it’ll be on the lips of critics for months to come.
Da 5 Bloods follows the story of five African American veterans of the Vietnam War and the son of their fallen leader who died in battle, as they journey to find his body. Along the way, the happen upon a stash of gold that could change their lives.
The fallen soldier is played by Black Panther’s lead actor, Chadwick Boseman, whom we meet through flashbacks.
Many of the names on the cast may be recognised for their previous work with Spike Lee, including Delroy Lindo, Clarke Peters, and Isiah Whitlock Jr. Norm Lewis.
Da 5 Bloods will be released to Netflix on June 12th 2020, worldwide. Check out the trailer below.
