It’s been a long wait, but Keanu Reeves and Alex Winter have announced that Bill & Ted will finally have their third adventure hitting theatres in August 2020.
Bill & Ted will finally get a third adventure. The news comes after rumours of a third film have been circulating for years, with fans desperately pining over their favourite comedic duo to return on screen.
Actors Alex Winter and Keanu Reeves aka William “Bill” S Preston Esq and Theodore “Ted” Logan broke the news in a short promotional video filmed at the Hollywood Bowl. The pair said the new film would “hopefully” shoot in the summer.
Bill & Ted’s Excellent Adventure and Bill & Ted’s Bogus Journey were released in 1989 and 1991 respectively and proved to be unexpectedly popular with audiences and still to this day.
The first installment of the franchise saw the hilarious duo travel through time to bring significant figures back to present-day California to help them pass their school history report. When we saw Bill & Ted again in their second adventure, we saw them famously take on Death at Battleships, parodying Ingmar Bergman’s ‘The Seventh Seal’.
Entertainment Weekly recently released images showing filming has well and truly commenced as Reeves and Winter appear in character.
In a press release, Franchise writers Chris Matheson and Ed Solomon, said:
“They were told when they were teenagers that they were going to save reality, and they’ve been working on it the whole time. Now an emissary from the future comes and says, ‘You’ve got to do it right now. We’ve got literally 80 minutes or all of reality will come to an end.”
The press release also stated:
“The stakes are higher than ever for William “Bill” S. Preston Esq. (Winter) and Theodore “Ted” Logan (Reeves). Yet to fulfil their rock-and-roll destiny, the now middle-aged best friends set out on a new adventure, when a visitor from the future warns them that only their song can save life as we know it and bring harmony to the universe. Along the way, they will be helped by their families, old friends, and a few music legends.”
Rumoured to be starring in the third adventure are Samara Weaving and Brigette Lundy-Paine are rumoured to be starring as the daughters of Bill and Ted. Kid Cudi, Kristen Schaal, Anthony Carrigan, Erinn Hayes, Jayma Mays, Jillian Bell, Holland Taylor, Beck Bennett, William Sadler, Hal Landon Jr. and Amy Stoch are also slated to star in the film.
The first trailer for the film has hit the internet, promising “a new adventure to seek the song that will set their world right and bring harmony in the universe, with the help of their daughters, a new batch of historical figures and a few music legends. Check it out below.
