With the upcoming US election, Virgil Abloh has released “swing state” tees from his yellow canary label to promote voter turnout.
Virgil Abloh has released a new charitable line of “swing state” tees from his yellow canary label to target swing states with the upcoming US election. With the aim to stimulate voter turnout, it targets the 13 states of Georgia, Michigan, Nevada, New Mexico, North Carolina, Pennsylvania, Texas, Florida, Virginia, Arizona, California Colorado, and Wisconsin. Each tee includes a map and neon green ‘ABLOH’ tag with a specific swing state highlighted blue. Joe Biden is required to have a strong following in the mentioned states in order to win over Trump.
Not only does this shirt promote voter turnout, it is also made of 50% upcycled cotton and 50% recycled polyester ie made from roughly five plastic bottles and 120g of fabric. Hence, saving 240L of water to produce. Abloh has also recently raised $1million for the Virgil Abloh “Post-Modern” Scholarship Fund and will continue his philanthropy by donating the proceeds of the shirts to this program.
This program is partnered with the Fashion Scholarship Fund (FSF) and was established “to foster equity and inclusion within the fashion industry by providing scholarships to students of academic promise of Black, African-American, or African descent.” In order to foster societal change and to help the new generation of the fashion forward, the program aims to not only help students financially but provide insightful career mentoring and networking. This particular program is not only limited to the designer himself but has also worked with other companies such as Farfetch and Louis Vuitton in order to garner genuine, long-term change.
The swing state shirt is priced at $55USD and is available for online order at the official canary-yellow site.
