The highly anticipated third instalment in the Kingsman series The King’s Man is due to hit cinemas on January 1st 2022.
Originally scheduled for release in 2019, the action spy film has been pushed back many times due to the pandemic. The origin story of the Kingsman will finally be made available in theatres on New Year’s Day in Australia. Disney has announced that The King’s Man alongside The Eternals will premiere exclusively in theatres for 45 days before being made available on Disney+.
Secret Service Origin Story
The entire Kingsman franchise is based on Mark Millar and Dave Gibbons comic The Secret Service. The King’s Man is the prequel to both The Kingsman: The Secret Service (2014) and Kingsman: The Golden Circle (2017). It is a dramatic time shift from its sequels taking place during the early 1900s. And will illustrate the formation of the Kingsman spy agency.
The official synopsis being:
“It’s more serious, but it’s not boring. With all due respect to the Oscar-winning movies of the last 10 years, not many of them are big, epic films that you want to watch again. You think, ‘Great film. I’m done with that one.’ When I was a kid, whether it was Lawrence of Arabia, Doctor Zhivago, French Connection, this movie called The Man Who Would Be King, they were big epics that were proper films but they weren’t boring. They were adventures but they had heart and romance. It’s time to bring back that genre to a modern audience. Weirdly, the more old fashion we’ve gone, the more fresh it feels.”
