DAY 32 “CAIRO TO INDIA AND THE HISTORY OF INDIA” ’80DAYS’ Series with Paul G Roberts

In the novel “Around the World in 80 Days” by Jules Verne, Phileas Fogg, a wealthy and precise English gentleman, traveled from Suez Egypt to Mumbai (previously known as Bombay) as part of his quest to circumnavigate the globe in 80 days.

Phileas catches a steamer named the Mongolia from Brindisi at the foot of Italy and takes it to Suez Egypt.

When the steamer stops at Suez on October 9, Fogg disembarks to get his passport stamped, but does not care to view the scenery.

To pass the time, Fogg plays whist with a bunch of other folks on the Mongolia.

In Egypt, Fogg and Passepartout missed their scheduled steamer to Bombay due to a delay caused by a local uprising. Fogg, determined to stay on schedule, chartered a small vessel, the Tankadere, to take him and Passepartout to the nearest port in India, which is Mumbai.

During the journey, through the Suez Canal and the down the Red Sea, and then around the Arabian Peninsula via the Arabian Sea to Mumbai Fogg and Passepartout encountered various obstacles, including a typhoon and an attack by bandits. However, they managed to make it to the port and Mumbai in time to catch their train to Calcutta.

Overall, Fogg’s journey from Egypt to Bombay or modern day Mumbai was a challenging and exciting part of his around-the-world adventure, showcasing his determination and resourcefulness in the face of ongoing unexpected obstacles.

Fun fact, I have been to India twice. Both times the purpose for visiting was just  like the Beatles back in their day searching for enlightenment, to spend time with a notable Indian ‘Guru’ . For me my ‘Maharishi’ experience was at a meditation Ashram,“Sri Narayani Peedam” near Bangalore where I would stay a week or two and do some hard core meditation practice. It made the 10 day silent Vipassna retreats seem like a walk in the park.

But whilst Sadhguru wasn’t the Guru I stayed with on my journeys (India has many Guru’s), Sadhguru is a notable spiritual leader in India and also in the West. He has a lot of wise things to say about the meaning of life, suffering, and the problems of our world. And he knows a lot about India. You should check him out.

Sadhguru “Yogi, Mystic and Visionary” said:

“For thousands of years, though we have been multiple political entities within the Indian subcontinent, we were always recognised as one nation, within this land and in the rest of the known world. This is because of a unique cultural and spiritual ethos.”

“The Indian culture is the most complex and colourful culture on the planet. The way people look, their language, their food, their way of dressing, and their music and dance everything changes every fifty or hundred kilometers in this country.

This solo one man odyssey, was crafted in the shadow of Jules Verne’s immortal prose ‘Around the World in 80 Days’, but more than a nod to literary genius—it is an homage to the insatiable human thirst for discovery.

A thirst some poetically inclined termed ‘Wanderlust’.

In my grand narrative of no less than 80 episodes, the world unfolds as a tapestry of cultures and wonders, we are reminded that the true wealth of life is not in the jingle of coins or the accolades of society. It is in the bonds we forge, the love that we kindle amidst the whirlwind of our pursuits.

Thanks for watching! See you in the next adventure! ✈️????

To those who would call my quest a folly, I say: life’s tapestry is woven with threads of experiences, not the gold of coins. For travel is the grand tutor of life’s lessons, unfurling the scrolls of the world before our eager eyes. And as I often say, a solitary day ablaze with adventure can outshine years of monochrome routine.

This, my friends, is the essence of my ‘80DAYS’—not merely a series of films, but a celebration of life in its most vivid form.

I will be releasing 2 new film episodes each week. There is so much more to follow. Subscribe to “YouTube FashionIndustryBroadcast” so you will not miss being notified of each drop. And if you feel it LIKE and COMMENT too.

Humbly yours in Wanderlust,

Paul G Roberts
