Kung Fu Panda was not the only film released to mark January’s end. The Finest Hours, an American Historical Disaster film starring Chris Pine and Casey Affleck came in fourth netting a little over ten million. Comedy parody 50 Shades of Black was also released this week, in 9th position it barely makes the top ten with a gross of six million. Jane Got a Gun which was released last Friday scored into 17th place with only $803,000 while Rabin, the Last Day sank into 40th place with a measly $7,854.

20th Century Fox was the top distributor this weekend, earning 54 million dollars who’s percentage change skyrocketed by 192.8% no doubt in relation to the release and success of Kung Fu Panda. Buena Vista productions also saw a percentage increase of 41.4% due in part to the success of The Finest Hours and the continued success of The Force Awakens.

Despite profit decreases for most films some that are already several weeks old are on the incline. Son of Saul which has been out for seven weeks now jumped from 38th place to 33rd this week, having had a profit increase of 83% likely due to the 21+ increase to theatre showings. Another example would be 45 Years which leapt from 31st to 24th this week and showed a profit surge of 195.4% the greatest leap of the week and +55 to the theatre showing count.
