20 Years On… Trainspotting 2 Is Finally Coming To Fruition

It’s been almost 20 years since the release of the first Trainspotting film, and fans are hoping that the sequel, slated to release early 2017, will bring the same levels of grit, filth, humour and raw vulnerability that made the first so iconic.

The thought of creating a sequel after such a prolonged period of time may put some doubt into the mind of a viewer, as from past experiences they have not worked out so well. However, the prospect looks bright for Trainspotting 2. The film will see the return of original cast members Ewan McGregor (Mark Renton), Ewen Bremner (Daniel ‘Spud’ Murphy), Jonny Lee Miller (Simon ‘Sick Boy’ Williamson) and Robert Carlyle (Francis Begbie), as well as connecting  most of the same creative team, including director Danny Boyle and screenwriter John Hodge.

The story will consist of material adapted from Irvine Welsh’s aptly named book, Porno, and will be set 20 years on from the mayhem that was the first film. When asked about the project Boyle said that

“it’s like 20 years later, and it’s the same actors. You know, it’s 20 years later in a friendship”.

Apart from this there is very little known about what avenues the plot may take as it has been kept under tight wraps.

A teaser trailer has been released for the film but as expected it is exactly that…  Though the trailer shows us very little, we do get our first glimpse at what the characters look like now.

Will Trainspotting 2 live up to expectations? I guess we’ll just have to wait and see. In the interim what was your favourite scene from the original film? Personally, it’s hard to go past the ‘The Worst Toilet In Scotland’, but there are countless memorable moments.
