Kalita Al Swaidi and Rachel Temily bring the “Rio” to the truck show on Moda Operandi.
When it comes to a good design, nothing really needs to be said, but sometimes coming up with a suitable concept could really add a finishing touch on top of what is called “perfection”, and that’s what Kalita, the resort wear label launched by Kalita Al Swaidi and Rachel Temily, explains.
Well known for its traditional Italian craftsmanship, the label has launched on the truck show on Modaoperandi.com with a limited edition printed maxi-skirt – the “Rio” – stocked exclusively on the site, during the show.
Exotically featuring hand-drawn geometric prints in a palette of earth-toned colours and a loose, airy silhouette, the brand has found its unique way to tell what is the best to wear on, and outside, the beach.
“We weren’t interested in making sexy clothes that men would like. Everything is cut at the bias, it has stretch and it’s designed to flatter a woman’s body. We like dressing like boys” – Temily.
Since it’s known to all that Rio has not only the most popular beaches worldwide, but also has been hosting the quadrennial global event lately – the Olympic, hence being sexy is not the only interest the “Rio” shows, but also comforting a woman’s body, flattering on different body shapes, and highlighting various personalities. Is it the inspiration for “Rio”?
“Brands are evolving collections to have more depth, Kalita collections embody this idea perfectly” -Elizabeth Leventhal.
Prices range from 375 pounds, or $573, for a cotton dress to 816 pounds, or $905, for the Rio printed skirt.
