We needed to take pause and marvel at Marvel’s latest export. The trailer for the third Thor movie is out, and it’s giving us goosebumps.
According to Marvel’s official synopsis of the film:
“In Thor: Ragnarok, Thor is imprisoned on the other side of the universe without his mighty hammer and finds himself in a race against time to get back to Asgard to stop Ragnarok — the destruction of his homeworld and the end of Asgardian civilisation — at the hands of an all-powerful new threat, the ruthless Hela.
“But first he must survive a deadly gladiatorial contest that pits him against his former ally and fellow Avenger — the Incredible Hulk!”
This is the seventeenth film that Marvel has unveiled in nine years. Add to that the fact that a lot of Thor’s plot is Norse mythology. Add to that the fact that we aren’t 100% certain how much of the comics are going to get translated to film. We’d understand if you’re a bit confused about the Who What and Where. So we thought we would help make sense of what’s going on.
Why’s Thor all Tied up and Toasty?
The answer is simple really, our favorite alien God is in Hell. It’s the happy little home of the main villain of our film.Thor’s going head to head with her, and we’re a tiny bit concerned he’s not going to fare too well. Looks like he could be hanging there for a little while.
Who’s the Baddass Bitch making Thor’s Home World Burn?
This is Hela. Remember that villain we mentioned a second ago? Her job description literally reads ‘Goddess of Death’. Where do we sign up? Portrayed by the Blue Jasmine Oscar winner, Cate Blanchett, is released from her prison early on in the film as a result of Loki’s lax rule while impersonating his father. She looks like she means business.
A Vision Named Valkyrie
For those wondering if Thor’s going to have a love interest in this film, the answer to that seems to be a solid, yes (what superhero film would it be without one?). Tessa Thompson is all set to share hidden looks and maybe some sexually charged glances with the Australian heartthrob in the third instalment of the franchise. Though if you ask us they do appear to have a rocky start, but we’re quite confident things will smooth over.
A Marvel Makeover in Store for Thor?
We aren’t a 100% sure on where we stand with Thor’s forced makeover. It is pretty clear that he’s an unwilling participant, however, we have to admit we aren’t exactly complaining after a look at the ‘after’ shot. Oh boy.
Looking Forward to a Lot more Loki.
Tom Hiddleston is back and in clearly in the mood for some mischief. We have absolutely no idea who’s side he is on. No one really cares though, as we’re just really glad he’s back. He does seem to have gained some serious knife juggling skills.
Having it Out with the Incredible Hulk
While we at FIB would never dream of facing our ‘work friends’ in a gladiator arena, it does appear, Thor has very little choice in the matter. Just cause Hulk doesn’t seem menacing enough as an angry man in green, they have him as a gladiator in this film. Comic fans will easily connect the Hulk’s makeover to the much-loved Planet Hulk storyline. Though it might not be fair to pick sides, we would be lying if we didn’t admit to this being one showdown we are eagerly looking forward to.
In all the film does tease at having it all. Good throwback the comic universe. The highly adored winged helmet. A healthy dose of awkward humor. Drop dead gorgeous people on both sides dueling it out. A sneaky appearance by Benedict Cumberbatch. Do you need more?
Thor Ragnarok is set to barrel into Australian cinemas on October 26 and will hit the US on November 3. In the meantime, why not check out the trailer here!
