Look, I’m going to be honest – I’m not a tennis fan. As a kid, I used to absolutely despise any and all televised tennis events – mainly because they interfered with my Home and Away viewing for a good month or so each year. But now that I’m well and truly off the H&A train, and chasing the kind of high that only live music brings – could the 2018 Australian Open’s mega-musical attaché finally attract myself, and other tennis-haters court-side?
Tennis Australia and Mushroom Events have announced that the 2018 Australian Open will play host to an absolutely huge live music line-up. Returning to the middle terrace of Birrarung Marr (at Melbourne Park, for those not in the know) the AO Live Stage will see a collection of Aussie and International acts delivering a solid schedule of tunes, spanning the entire two weeks.
Punters will be treated to the likes of The Rubens, Illy, Rudimental, The Jungle Giants, Ali Barter, Vera Blue, Meg Mac, Bliss n Eso, Northeast Party House, Dean Lewis, Gretta Ray, Tina Arena, Hoodoo Gurus and Client Liaison.
And when competitors and attendees alike are on their last legs in the sweltering January heat, new ARIA Hall of Fame inductee Daryl Braithwaite will undoubtedly rejuvenate the masses with a sweaty rendition of crowd-favourite ‘Horses’.
Do unruly crowds typically deter you from large events? Well, you can be assured that this crowd will be free of any and all scrubs – as perennial American girl group TLC are booked to take the stage on the final day of the Open.
Unfortunately (for me), they don’t offer tennis-free tickets so you can’t just bypass the court each day for the sweet tunes. But if you’re in the market for a summer vacay, and you’re willing to sweat it out in the stands for a few sets all for a stellar line-up, then the Australian Open is where you need to be this January.
Tickets are now on sale through Ticketek. The 2018 Australian Open runs from January 15th – January 28th. Check out the full line-up below.
