Louis Vuitton has made created an unexpected partnership with Riot Games for the League of Legends World Championship.
The mega French fashion house announced the first-of-its-kind collaboration with the US based eSports organisation, claiming a partnership made mutual values in innovation and pioneering. This news follows Burberry’s release of its own game B Bounce, so it seems the fashion world is taking big leaps into the realm of virtual gaming.
It’s not the first time LV dipped their luxury-branded toes into the gaming world though; in 2015, Artistic Director of Women’s collections, Nicolas Ghesquière, cast the leading lady from the Japanese RPG series Final Fantasy XIII as the new face of their ‘Series 4’ collection.
It’s no surprise League of Legends was the game chosen, seeing as it is the most played PC-game since it’s launch in 2009, and having an audience of 99.6 million viewers at the 2018 World Championship.
LV and the gaming platform are set to design a bespoke Trophy Travel Case for the Summoner’s Cup to be rewarded on November 10th after the multi-week League of Legends World Championship Finals in Paris.
LV wrote: “The bespoke trunk, the first of its kind for an esports championship, will feature both traditional Louis Vuitton savoir-faire along with cutting-edge, high-tech elements inspired by the League of Legends universe.”
LV will also be releasing unique champion skins and a capsule collection designed by Ghesquière along with other League of Legend digital assests.
While LV has created trophy cases for high profile sporting events in the past, this is the first of it’s kind for an eSports championship. Which makes it a pretty exciting collaboration for the fashion history books, if you ask me.
