This year’s Paris Fashion Week has definitely been kicked up a notch, and it’s not because of the extravagant clothes, quirky hairstyles or outrageous facial accessories (we’re looking at you, Riccardo Tisci), but rather a certain runway backdrop that topped off an already amazing show.
The mastermind, of course, is Karl Lagerfeld. Chanel’s creative director perfectly created a totally Paris-esque vibe to the label’s Autumn Winter 2015 show, with a chic pop-up café called ‘Brasserie Gabrielle’ as a nod to the mysterious and intriguing founder Gabrielle “Coco” Chanel. The specially built, fully functioning Parisian bistro played host to gorgeous models like Cara Delevingne and Kendall Jenner relaxing in the midst of the show as sharply dressed waiters in white shirts and black vests served them drinks and pastries. One particularly special barman was none other than Baptiste Giabiconi, the super handsome top male model, who shared a friendly kiss with the two sparkling models.
Lagerfeld’s perfectly eccentric display embraces the chic, Parisian café culture with bold French elegance and decadence. A giant wooden bar with glass and brass trimmings was indeed the perfect setting to the French label’s show, and even Karl himself couldn’t hide how happy he was with the end result. Standing proudly behind the bar as he spoke with media at the conclusion of the show, he boasted “It’s the biggest French brasserie ever.”
“It’s an idealised vision of a Paris of today that I wanted to amplify, to pour water on ‘French bashing’,” he said. “Even if the French say that France is ugly, it’s not so ugly — no need to exaggerate. It’s not as bad as all that.”
