Tash Parker otherwise known as PARKER is a force to be reckon with in the electronic indie world.
Tash Parker’s vocals and lyricism shares similarities to Evanesence’s singer Amy Lee, Parker’s ability as singer strikes at impending moments and you feel struck by her enchantments. In ‘Become The Fool’ the song opens up Parker singing a dense lament about someone stepping away from a romantic relationship. Parker’s tormented angelic vocals coincide perfectly with the gentle piano melody.

As listeners are traveling calmly through on Parker’s vocals, the instrumental arrangement of the drumming buildup to the lo-fi drop at 1:25 minute mark of the music video is strikingly powerful as it captures the emotive intensity in the lyrics, ‘How’d I get so lost in you Let myself become the fool’.

Parker is taking the imaginative process of music videos to the next level. The music video is a work of art in itself and was made using the video game engine called Unity Unity can be used to create three-dimensional, two-dimensional, virtual reality, and augmented reality games, as well as simulations and other experiences. It is remarkable that Parker tests and incorporates her abilities as a visual artist by using the video game engine because it shows more depth into the creative meaning of the song. The combination of the song, the dance choreography and music video ultimately become an innovative and stunning performance piece.

Behind the making of the music video, Parker explained “We took inspiration from Bauhaus design; we wanted to create something that felt nostalgic yet contemporary. Every single element in the clip has a meaning and a reason to be there. Nothing is superfluous.”

The meaning behind the song’s lyrics is partly inspired by Tash Parker’s own personal life and the characters of the hit tv show The Marvelous Mrs. Marvel. What may seem like a random pop culture reference to source a song’s inspiration, the plot of the TV show shares a common theme in Parker’s song about sacrificing relationships for other personal pursuits.

In discussing the creative process behind the song’s subject matter Parker reflects, “When a relationship ends it can be devastating. But what happens afterwards can be a beautiful mess of experiences and vivid feelings. When I got to the end of my longest relationship, I realised I had lost so much of myself. I had been living for someone else and their dreams for so long I didn’t know who I was without them. But through this experience, I was set free to find myself again, to pursue my creative practice with all my heart.”The music video of ‘Become The Fool’ perfectly illustrates Parker’s vision of her song. The viewer is taken by the emotional density of Parker’s performance and for a moment we are fixated within the simulation of the Bauhaus ‘Inception’ like world. There we feel a mix of emotional feelings which makes us ponder if those feelings have a resemblance of our own personal lives or is it the enchanting prowess of Parker’s imagination and genius as an artist that makes us feel so?
