Feeling isolated? Why not welcome a companion pet into your home during this time of social isolation?
On a typical day, we take social interactions for granted. It might be a walk down the street on our way to work and the regular Hi to the next door neighbour; or a meet up with a friend for lunch. It may seem pedestrian, but now we have to stay at home we really shouldn’t take the small interactions for granted. On the contrary, they often make our day.
RSPCA have thankfully come to the rescue, lowering their prices to make it affordable to adopt a new furry friend and help combat the epidemic of isolation being felt on both sides. I mean who wouldn’t? With the new 1.5 metre distancing between people and heavy fines for breaches, it can be very lonely. But just because you are self- isolating doesn’t mean you have to be alone. If you’re looking for the perfect quarantine companions, you can now welcome home cats, pups, bunnies, guinea pigs, chicks and sheep during this stressful and uncertain time.
Sure, friends and family promise to only be one call away. But humans are social creatures and we need physical interaction. Domestic animals – who are also in dire need of some love-Â are life-long companions that will always be there for you if you let them.
However if you can’t commit to a furry besty for the long haul, you could consider fostering one to keep you company for now. Foster pets are usually young or recovering from an illness and hence require lots of love and attention. As you’ll be home all day for the next month or two, there’s no better time to welcome a new friend into your home without breaking the law.
If looking after a cat, dog or other cute pet seems appealing, contact RSPCA to learn more about fostering or adopting these companion animals. During this isolation time, people’s mental health can spiral, and so can the misery of sick/homeless animals. Make sure to check in with your loved ones and next-door neighbours to ensure they are okay and rescue yourself and an animal from isolation today.
