Sure the information is all out there, but it is a time consuming ordeal to scan all the necessary sources. As Darwin said survival depends on how quickly you can adapt.
The future belongs to those who prepare today.
In this PODCAST #106 I want to look at The Corona crisis, will it reveal “The Better Angels of Our Nature” or will it plunge the world into a class war ?
“The Better Angels of Our Nature”, appeared in the final paragraph of Abraham Lincoln’s first inaugural address in 1861. At the close of his address, Abraham Lincoln spoke to those who would divide the United States.
“We are not enemies, but friends. We must not be enemies. Though passion may have strained it must not break our bonds of affection. The mystic chords of memory, stretching from every battlefield and patriot grave to every living heart and hearthstone all over this broad land, will yet swell the chorus of the Union, when again touched, as surely they will be, by the better angels of our nature” – Abraham Lincoln, 16th US President
The phrase has a poetic and deeply inspirational sound. It usually appears in a sentence along with the words “appeal to.” Special people or special circumstances are considered appeals to the “better angels of our nature.”
I have always understood the phrase to mean that under certain conditions we should go beyond what comes easily or naturally. Whether in thought or action, we should dig more deeply into ourselves and think or act in a way that is somehow more highly evolved or enlightened. By definition this will not come easily. For some it will not come at all.
The phrase “better angels” suggests that not all the angels that inspire us are created equal. That’s an odd thought. I grew up assuming that Angels are Angels. But apparently Lincoln believed otherwise. Some of those alternative Angels may be “worse,” even if their agenda stems from a well-traveled path that comes more naturally.
The coronavirus crisis I believe presents a choice. A choice in which I pray we as a species listen to the better angels of our nature. Because if we cannot or do not, then the world could be pushed over a precipice.
Even as the military and police roam our empty city streets, the current crisis is showing an intensification of social strife. Racist attacks on Asians are spiking, thanks in no small part to Donald Trump’s embrace of the phrase “China virus.” The class war is also becoming fiercer. In America there is actually a two-pronged class war going on. Among the rich and their allies in both political parties, the crisis offers an opportunity to loot the Treasury. The stimulus packages that have passed, or are being contemplated, are all designed to lock in the privileged position of the existing rich, with only limited efforts made to soften the blow of the Recession on the working-class majority. At the same time, blue-collar workers are expected to work in dangerous conditions with little compensation. Many of these same workers are being squeezed by furloughs, pay cuts and layoffs.
Who knows how this will play out in my relatively wealthy country Australia? I can’t even imagine what will happen in poor countries, who cannot practice ‘social distancing’, get medical care, or food. The combination of plutocratic bailouts and increasing precariousness and physical danger for the working class is an explosive one. It’s hard to see how it can last long without a breakdown of the social order. Whilst we haven’t seen looting and riots yet, imagine how quickly things could escalate if food becomes scarce?
But maybe a violent revolution is just what the world needs to liberate the people from their enslavement.
Keanu Reeves believes that humans are about to break free from ‘The Matrix’. A war is being fought that will shape the future of human existence and the world we leave for our children, according to Keanu Reeves, who says he is “quietly optimistic” about the future because “humanity is showing signs of breaking free from the matrix.“
“The human race has been enslaved for thousands of years,” Keanu Reeves said a year ago while filming in the Mojave Desert, explaining that “we have been kept in a mental prison by shadowy elites and secret societies that have done all they can to suppress us and stop us reaching our potential.” But the Matrix star says the real world matrix is beginning to crack. And the Corona Virus crisis may be the event that creates the tipping point.
“Humanity is showing signs of breaking free from the matrix. What a time to be alive! We are living in exciting times.”
Well to be fair he said that before people started dying from this disease. Reeves explained that he had been studying ancient texts including the Vedanta and the Upanishads and learning about the nature of reality.
“Yeah, sure, there are a lot of people still only interested in keeping up with the Kardashians, but a significant chunk of the population have woken up… Most importantly there is now a war being fought between our overlord masters and those who wish to set us free.” – Keanu Reeves, who plays Neo in the 1999 Wachowski bros film The Matrix
Keanu Reeves says the Matrix is a holographic universe being projected to us by those who wish to control us. Humanity has been suppressed and controlled in this manner for millennia. We think it is real, but in actual fact it is just a film being played to the collective consciousness, presenting itself as ‘reality’.
Keanu Reeves is not alone in believing humanity has been living in a matrix for thousands of years. Some of the world’s richest and most influential people are convinced that we are living in a computer simulation. At least two of Silicon Valley’s tech billionaires are pouring money into efforts to break humans out of the simulation that they believe we are living in.
Elon Musk believes the chances we are not living in a matrix-style computer simulation are “billions to one.”
“Many people in Silicon Valley have become obsessed with the simulation hypothesis, the argument that what we experience as reality is in fact fabricated in a computer… Two tech billionaires have gone so far as to secretly engage scientists to work on breaking us out of the simulation.” – Tad Friend, the New Yorker
But Keanu Reeves believes the Silicon Valley guys have got it slightly wrong about breaking free of the Matrix. He has a word of advice for the tech billionaires. “Put your wallets back in your pockets. This has nothing to do with money or computers. It’s a spiritual shift that needs to take place, not a ‘hack’.”
Keanu spent his time stargazing, sitting by an open fire, and conversing with new friends. According to Keanu, that spiritual shift is taking place. People are tired of unnecessary wars, totalitarian leadership, and authoritarian control. People are waking up to what is really important in life. And now never before with the current crisis.
“But people are slowly waking up. It’s time to take back our infinite power and fling open the doors of the mental prison we have been encouraged to build for ourselves. It’s not an easy thing to do, but it’s time to walk into the light of freedom.”
For me right now with the coronavirus just about to kick in hard, I can personally see people all around me starting to wake up from this Matrix-like illusion, and start to re-examine their value systems. If money, accumulating possessions and profit are no longer meaningful elements to strive towards, what do we have instead ?
Now I don’t know about you, but it’s becoming increasingly clearer to me that these things were false idols all along. And that the capitalist, consumerist system probably failed to be a useful model to allocate the world’s resources well before the last century had ended.
So to end this story, I wanted to share another POV, and this time it’s not from a Hollywood actor, tech billionaire or Indian mystic, it’s from White Eagle, an American Hopi indigenous indian on 03/16/2020:
“This moment humanity is going through can now be seen as a portal and as a hole. The decision to fall into the hole or go through the portal is up to you.
If you repent of the problem and consume the news 24 hours a day, with little energy, nervous all the time, with pessimism, you will fall into the hole. But if you take this opportunity to look at yourself, rethink life and death, take care of yourself and others, you will cross the portal.
Take care of your homes, take care of your body. Connect with your spiritual House. When you are taking care of yourselves, you are taking care of everything else. Do not lose the spiritual dimension of this crisis, have the eagle aspect, that from above, and see the whole; see more broadly.
There is a social demand in this crisis, but there is also a spiritual demand. The two go hand in hand. Without the social dimension, we fall into fanaticism. But without the spiritual dimension, we fall into pessimism and lack of meaning.
You were prepared to go through this crisis. Take your toolbox and use all the tools available to you.
Learn about resistance of the indigenous and African peoples: we have always been and continue to be exterminated. But we still haven’t stopped singing, dancing, lighting a fire and having fun. Don’t feel guilty about being happy during this difficult time.
You do not help at all being sad and without energy. You help if good things emanate from the Universe now. It is through joy that one resists. Also, when the storm passes, each of you will be very important in the reconstruction of this new world.
You need to be well and strong. And, for that, there is no other way than to maintain a beautiful, happy and bright vibration. This has nothing to do with alienation. This is a resistance strategy.
In shamanism, there is a rite of passage called the quest for vision. You spend a few days alone in the forest, without water, without food, without protection. When you cross this portal, you get a new vision of the world, because you have faced your fears, your difficulties …
This is what is asked of you:
Allow yourself to take advantage of this time to perform your vision seeking rituals. What world do you want to build for you? For now, this is what you can do: serenity in the storm. Calm down, pray every day. Establish a routine to meet the sacred every day.
Good things emanate; what you emanate now is the most important thing. And sing, dance, resist through art, joy, faith and love.
Resist – Be reborn”
I think we can learn a lot from the wisdom of the Ancients.
