Ok, so you’re not able to travel anywhere for now, but that doesn’t mean it’s not a bad time to line up a Mediterranean bae or a Scandinavian sweetheart to visit when this COVID-19 blip is finally over.
Tinder CEO Elie Seidman recently released a statement saying that the Passport feature will help users “transport themselves out of self-quarantine or isolation” by matching and chatting with users from anywhere around the world.
The Passport feature allows users to swipe in locations around the world. Usually, you have to pay for it, but right now it’s free for all. So instead of only having your pick of peeps in Sydney, you now have the opportunity to match with suitors from Europe amongst other places.
It’s easy to use too; to change your location using Passport you just need to tap your Profile icon, then select Settings and tap Location. Pick where you want to shoot your shot and you’re on your way to an epic romance.
Consider this an opportunity for you to practice your skills of seduction with a stranger that means absolutely nothing to you, before you exit the cocoon of self-isolation, sweatpants and minimal social interaction, and return to the real world.
Like many others, I had plans to travel the world, but that was before the world fell into chaos. And like most people, a vacation romance was on my mind, so even though I can’t be there physically at least I can get a head start digitally right?
Here’s how it went. My European odyssey began in Santorini. I had a couple of attempts to find a match with my future Mediterranean bae.
Then I packed my virtual bags and flew to Stockholm. Had some fun there too, but still waiting to find my Scandinavian sweetheart.
Then a quick hop and jump later I was in Amsterdam. Or as I now like to call it Amster-Damn. I will definitely be going there once this is over.
And finally a pit stop in my ancestral home of Funchal. Although I couldn’t taste the food or wine, talking about it kind of made up for it. No luck on the romance front though, I left yet another country single and slightly hungry.
While I’m yet to find a Mediterranean or Scandinavian sweetheart, I’m going to continue to explore this feature in an attempt to overcome these dreaded lockdown blues. And maybe, just maybe, find a match along the way.
The feature is free till April 30th. But by then you would have already dropped a pin on the map and swiped, liked, and hopefully matched with an eligible bachelor or bachelorette. Love has no boundaries, especially not geographical ones, in a digital world. So get swiping.
