The surprise new song from Beyoncé is a powerful vocal in honor of Juneteenth, coinciding with a new initiative that supports black-owned businesses.
Beyoncé released a new song called ‘Black Parade’ in the closing moment of Juneteenth, an American holiday that celebrates the end of slavery for African-Americans. Following her powerful lyrics from the track, she sings about black history, police brutality and the George Floyd protest. She raps and sings about her hometown, black culture and womanhood.
“Happy Juneteenth Weekend! I hope we continue to share joy and celebrate each other, even in the midst of struggle,” Beyoncé wrote in her Instagram post.
The continuous incidents of police brutality in the US leading to the prevalence of racial discrimination has lead to celebrities and influencers rushing to support the Black Lives Matter movement and use their influence to call for action. Clearly, Beyoncé is no exception as her new song voices her firm stance to support the movement.
‘Black Parade’ also features her husband Jay-Z as a co-writer. The strong rhythm is about empowerment and resilience centres on the recent Black Lives Matter protests and the death of George Floyd.
“Rubber bullets bouncin’ off me, Made a picket sign off your picket fence”, Beyoncé sings.
Using star power to launch a business
Beyoncé announced on her official website that ‘Black Parade’ benefits BeyGOOD’s Black Business Impact Fund to support Black-own small businesses in need. Along with this project, she and her personal stylist Zerina Akers unveiled an online directory that put more than 250 Black-owned businesses across the US in different categories. The businesses range from art and design, fashion and beauty, or even products to home furnishings and coffee.
Beyoncé uses her platform to highlight Black excellence and celebrate the strength, heritage and resilience of Black people. She continues to use her music as a vehicle to drive her position to proudly support the Black Lives Matter movement. ‘Black Parade’ is a call to action that is the latest extension of reinforcement.
