Much like London fashion week, the Milan leg was a digital affair. Tired of lockdown leisurewear, the Italian city’s creatives are designing for when the world opens up again.
Here are FIB’s picks for the best of Milan Fashion Week 2021:
Prada
Prada encompasses retro glamour this fall, examining the space between conventional polar opposites in their fall 2021 collection.
Architect of the show, Rem Koolhas said that Prada has a unique way of approaching style aversions,
“Hers is an unusual form of dislike, in which you explore why you dislike something and then you do something with that energy.”

Designer duo Raf Simons and Miuccia Prada have created a psychedelic meets art-nouveau mix up, accentuated with faux fur stoles and granddad cardigans.
Etro
Ballet dancer Rudolph Nureyev’s ballet attire and Jimi Hendrix’s iconic threads were the inspiration for Etro’s AW21 collection. The balance of stage-ready separates and roomy statement pieces creates a love-land of head-to-toe leopard print, paisley shifts, tasseled outerwear and velvet finery.
Etro told Vogue:
“If you see people going out, how they are making their outfits, I don’t think there are those old distinctions anymore. Between outdoor, indoor, leisure, business…between everything, actually. Which is a sort of freedom that is developing today.”

Moschino
Half dress-up-box fantasy, half old Hollywood glamour, Pop culture’s most irreverent designer Jeremy Scott, brings Moschino AW21 to life with a playful twist on technicolour fantasy. Bejeweled and print-focused, the collection encompasses a larger-than-life sense of wonder.
On Covid-19’s impact on fashion, Moschino creative director Jeremy Scott told Vogue,
“I guess I live in such a fantasy land … I mean, you have to get dressed anyway, don’t you?” …
“Comfort schmomfort! What we need now more than ever is fantasy and glamour and things that make you feel wonderful, and I don’t think sweatpants do that.”
Missoni
Missoni’s trademark geometric knits encompass the notions of sustainability, ‘style which lasts’ and cosy comfort in their 2021 fall collection.
Angela Missoni said in a statement,
“Of course, you will find a new direction because the wardrobe evolves and you need new pieces. You will find more leisurewear, for sure, but also the classic pieces – the very soft knitwear, oversize sweaters… There’s an attitude that changes. I do hope that we can go and socialise outside. The video starts with a single girl, who then meets all her friends. And it ends with them running, free, towards the light. The hope… a little message. We’re going to have a future of freedom, soon.”
The Missoni AW21 film showcase Look Right Through Me explores the intimacy of different domestic situations and the glamorous appeal of a mysterious club.
