Jordan Peele Announces New Horror Film, “Nope”

Some think it could be a follow-up film to Get Out. As The Guardian reminds us, Kaluuya’s character was one of the only figures to survive Peele’s first horror film. Could Nope be a continuation of his story?

Others believe it could be weather-related due to the ominous cloud at the focus of the poster. Or it could be related to Us, which begins at and delves into the horrors of carnivals.

After all, “Nope” scenes in cinema generally refer to terrifying moments in horror films. You know, the ones that make you cover your eyes, look away and shudder “Nope”. So one can suspect that the film will rely on discomfort, scares and plot twists.

Despite the severe lack of spoilers, there’s promise. With multiple Oscar nominations, both Get Out and Us made over $255 million each at the box office. So it’s fair to say that we have high expectations.

Jordan Peele has forever changed scary movies. After starting his career in comedy and earlier work in duo Key & Peele, the filmmaker reached global recognition. Plus he’s had his hands in plenty of other works as an actor, comedian, screenwriter and director.

But since winning the first Best Original screenplay Oscar for an African-American, Peele has been well on his way to re-defining film culture and the horror genre itself.

The 42-year-old filmmaker has become infamous for his satirical and comedic take on society’s flaws, social issues and spine-chilling situations. 

The Oscar-winning director has also produced the highly anticipated sequel to Candyman, of the same name. The film was pushed back due to the pandemic and is set to release around 26 August this year.

The Genius of Peele

Peele’s turn to horror has been nothing short of genius. His work has been acclaimed for its intelligence and unusual style. And this is because Peele’s films are actually scary – both in the jumpy way and in the truth-revealing horrors of reality kind of way.

Therefore, we can make some fairly likely assumptions about Nope. It’ll probably be well-thought-out and involve unexpected turns. And it’s sure to reveal some higher truth and revelation about human nature and the horrors of real life.
