The new trailer for Spencer, a film revolving around Princess Diana, has released its first trailer ahead of its premiere at the Venice Film Festival.
“Spencer” has dropped its first official trailer, a film revolving around Diana’s decision to divorce from her husband Prince Charles. This is 25 years after Diana’s official divorce from Prince Charles, and 24 years since her tragic passing. The film premiered at the Venice Film Festival on September 1, and will release to the public on November 5. Directed by Pablo Lorrain, the film stars Kristen Stewart as Diana, and Jack Farthing as Prince Charles.
The drama follows Princess Diana during a three-day period in 1991, over a Christmas she had in Sandringham. The film presents a dramatization of Diana’s divorce from her husband but will show how she “decides and realizes that she wants to be the woman she was before she met Charles,” LarraÃn told Deadline.
Stewart is only the third actress, in recent years, to have acted as the royal. The first depiction of Diana was from Emma Corrin in the hit drama series, The Crown. She won a Golden Globe for her depiction and will be replaced by Elizabeth Debicki in season five. Stewart’s casting was met with criticism, however, as her acting career has been heavily tied with her role as Bella Swan in Twilight. Following the rise and fall of the Charlie’s Angels remake that she also starred in, audiences were wary about her casting. But Lorrain stood behind his decision.
“To do this well, you need something very important in film, which is mystery. Kristen can be many things, and she can be very mysterious and very fragile and ultimately very strong as well, which is what we need.”
With the release of the trailer, however, audiences were pleasantly surprised by the actor. While only uttering two words in the trailer (“They don’t”), fans were immediately captured. “Talented, brilliant, incredible, amazing, showstopping, spectacular, never the same…”, one person commented.
