Some of history’s best films have been born from the pages of novels. And 2022 is set to be a big year for book to film adaptations.
Read on for FIB’s list of the top five most anticipated book-to-film adaptations coming next year, alongside their anticipated release dates.
Death on the Nile
Following the success of the 2017 movie Murder On The Orient Express, Agatha Christie’s Detective Poirot is now back in Egypt. While enjoying his holiday down the Nile on the Karnak, his plans get interrupted when two deaths occur on the boat. He must solve the mystery before the cruise is over and the killer walks free. Starring Kenneth Branagh as Poirot, and Tom Bateman, Gal Gadot, and Emma Mackey, the old-timey murder mystery is set for release on the 22nd of February 2022 for Australia.
My Policeman
From the moment Marion first meets Tom, her best friend’s big brother, she is smitten. And when he comes home from National Service to be a policeman, she is determined to win his affections. Unable to acknowledge the signs that something is amiss, she plunges into marriage, sure that her love is enough for the both of them. But Tom has another life and an equally overpowering claim on his affections. Originally written by Betham Roberts, the film features the sensational Harry Styles as Tom, and Emma Corrin as Marion. It is set for release sometime in 2022 on Amazon Prime.
Peter Pan & Wendy
To follow Disney’s onslaught of Live Action films, comes the adaptation of J.M. Barrie’s Peter Pan. For those who didn’t grow up with the tale, young Wendy Darling is taken by Peter Pan to Neverland, a place full of colourful characters and mystical beings, and is also a place where you never grow up. Set for a 2022 release on Disney+, it features the acting debut of Alexander Molony as Peter, and Ever Anderson as Wendy.
The School for Good and Evil
A reworking of Soman Chainami’s series The School for Good And Evil, this movie follows best friends Sophie and Agatha as they are stolen away to the School for Good and Evil. It appears that Sophie is meant for Good and Agatha for Evil. But when the duo finds themselves in opposite schools, they get to questioning who they really are. Featuring Charlize Theron, Michelle Yeoh, Laurence Fishburne, and Kerry Washington, the movie is set for a 2022 release on Netflix.
White Bird: A Wonder Story
White Bird is a story told by a Jewish grandmother about hiding from the Nazis during Nazi-occupied France. Originally by R.J. Palacio, the film is a side-adaptation of 2017’s Wonder but instead of Auggie, it features Julian, his bully. Gillian Anderson and Helen Mirren are set to star in the film. It is anticipated for a late 2022 release.
