Carole Baskin has sued Netflix, over their decision to create a second Tiger King season.
Following the announcement of a second Tiger King season, Carole Baskin has filed a lawsuit against Netflix and Royal Goode Productions. In a statement, “The Baskins believe that any sequel – though odious – would not include any of their footage”, and that Baskin was surprised to see herself featured in the second season’s trailer.
Following the announcement of the new season, Baskin featured on Variety News, telling them that she condemned the sequel. “I wouldn’t Call Eric Goode or Rebecca Chaiklin (Tiger King’s directors) true documentarians. I mean that was just a reality show dumpster fire”. She has also been vocal about how the production was deceptive about the docuseries’ content. “[We believed Tiger King to be] an exposé of the big cat breeding and cub petting trade”, versus the current reality show focus on Joe Exotic.
The lawsuit also includes damages to Carole Baskins image from the documentary. This is referencing the fact that many believe she was involved in the disappearance of her first husband, Don Lewis.
Many are in support of Baskin’s decision to sue the streaming company, seeing the defamatory light of how she was treated in the show to be unjustified. They also state how the show lacks focus on animal abuse, and the unnecessary glorification of Joe Exotic’s actions. However, many are also criticising Baskin and her sanctuary’s likeness to Exotic’s Zoo. However, a reddit post by a previous intern has since contradicted some of these claims.
The show will be available to stream on November 17th.
