A fashion-lovers treasure trove of vintage pieces and iconic archived designs.Â
French Haute couture label Jean Paul Gaultier is now renting out its extensive collection for customers to temporarily savour. Alongside, a vintage resale arm on the brand’s website will give access to some of the brands most iconic pieces.
The resale arm comes after rapid growth in demand for Jean Paul Gaultier vintage. With the beginning of 2020 receiving a 300 per cent increase in online searches for the brands vintage pieces according to Vestiaire Collective. This comes as no surprise as fashion-lovers turn to previous decades for reference of what may be next in fashion. The petite collection of only 50 items was sourced from private clients and third-party resellers and will be available for purchase on their website.
Archival Treasures
The labels new online rental service will allow fashion fans to temporarily own their favourite Jean Paul Gaultier pieces. The 30,000-piece collection of archive designs will stand alongside the brand’s current fashion, fragrance, and vintage categories. This new format will allow customers to experience fashion in a new way. Encouraging people to rethink how they buy, use and dispose of clothing.
Online fashion rental services have undergone major growth in popularity over recent years. As buyers become more conscious of their fashion choices they look to solutions like these services. Helping them stay on trend and on the path towards a more environmentally friendly closet. Approaches like the ‘revolving wardrobe’ may be fashions answer to its impact on climate change.
The dual launch come as the legendary designer announced his retirement from the runway after 50 years in fashion. In his departure, Gaultier chose Belgian designer Glenn Martens to take his place in designing the Jean Paul Gaultier haute couture collections.
