Vivian Jenna Wilson, the transgender daughter of Elon Musk and his ex-wife Justine Wilson, has decided to legally change her name. In April of this year, Vivian filed for a legal name change in Santa Monica.
Vivian Jenna Wilson, Elon Musk’s transgender daughter, was born Xavier Alexander Musk. As per the Sun, Wilson put an application in to a superior court in California to change her name to Vivian Jenna Wilson. The application to change her name and gender has been granted.
Wilson is also completely cutting ties with her father. She explains,
“I no longer live with or wish to be related to my biological father in any way, shape or form.”
Although it is unclear as to why Vivian will be cutting ties with her father, speculations have risen.
Elon Musk’s History with Transphobia
Elon Musk has a history of transphobia. In 2020 Musk shared a Tweet “Pronouns suck”. He has also shared similar tweets with transphobic content, claiming in one that “I absolutely support trans, but all these pronouns are an aesthetic nightmare”.
Musk also publicly supports the Republican party, although he formerly was a Democrat supporter. The Republican Party’s stance on issues of gender and LGTBQIA+ continue to be problematic. The Party has pledged to infringe on the rights of the transgender community in some states.
Most recently, on June 11th, Musk again offered his two cents on the trans debate. He took to Twitter to criticise the current views on gender. He tweeted: “We are simultaneously being told that gender differences do not exist and that genders are so profoundly different that irreversible surgery is the only option. Perhaps someone wiser than me can explain this dichotomy.
It then comes as little surprise that Vivian has chosen to cut ties with her father.
Support for Vivian
However, Vivian’s mother, Justine Wilson is proudly supporting her daughter’s decision. Justine and Elon Musk were married for 8 years between 2000-2008. They share five children, a pair of twins and triplets.
Justine recounted a conversation between herself and Vivian on Twitter. Vivian’s decision to change her last name from Musk to Wilson reflects her parent’s contrasting approaches to the trans debate.
Vivian’s future regarding inheritance from Elon Musk remains uncertain. Her decision to cut ties with her father is a step toward self-authenticity and Vivian seems happy with that. One thing is for sure, though. Regardless of her future fortune, Vivian has a loving supportive mother.
