It’s official. Emma Thompson has been cast as Mrs Potts in the new retelling of Beauty and the Beast. She will take the reins from Angela Lansbury who voiced the character in the animated classic, and yes, she will also sing. The new version will have the songs of your childhood – but also new ones – as well as songs from the Broadway musical.
The question is how they will create the servants, who are mainly in non-human form. According to TIME, Beauty and the Beast will be a hybrid of live-action and CGI (it’s unknown what the tone of this retelling will be).
If Andy Serkis, the man behind Gollum, Caesar and King Kong gets cast as some talking furniture, it wouldn’t be a surprise.
Beauty and the Beast will be released on March 17, 2017, and filming starts in May. Emma Watson will star as Belle, Dan Stevens as Beast, Luke Evans will play the hilarious (and obnoxious) villain Gaston and Josh Gad will star as Gaston’s sidekick LeFou. Even more recently, Kevin Kline has been announced as the choice for Belle’s father, Maurice.
We can’t wait to hear them all sing!
