We had Abraham Lincoln: Vampire Hunter. Now we have zombies in the Austenite world – say what? Based on the parody book by Seth Grahame-Smith, Pride and Prejudice and Zombies is scheduled to release on February 19, 2016.
As for the cast, Cinderella’s Lily James and Maleficient’s Sam Riley have signed up as world’s beloved couple Elizabeth Bennett and Fitzwilliam Darcy. Mr Darcy! Also on board are Game of Thrones’ Lena Headey whose role is currently unknown, Douglas Booth will be Mr. Bingley, and Matt Smith, best known as the Eleventh Doctor in Doctor Who, who will play the insufferable Mr. Collins.
Pride and Prejudice and Zombies is a retelling of Jane Austen’s classic novel where a plague has left a near desolated England with an abundance of zombies and survivors are trained to become undead slayers. Yes, that includes Elizabeth Bennett and Mr. Darcy. HOT ZOMBIE ALERT! This might mean that the sexual tension between the two will be heightened and we might even see some passionate physical combat between the two.
Since the parody book doesn’t stray away from the original, Austen fans don’t need to fear about the possible loss of Pride and Prejudice’s essence. “Even in the original story, Elizabeth’s a fighter and beyond her contemporaries in her ambitions and her ideas of women. She’s a badass warrior. She’s a ninja.” James said, concerning the faithfulness to the original story.
Pride and Prejudice and Zombies sounds promising and might just eat at our hearts and minds in the zombie era of cinema/television.
