Key and Peele, everyone’s favourite comedy duo have upped the anti this week with the release of their first feature film Keanu. You may know the pair from their array of viral sketches, including but not limited to The Substitute teacher and Text Message Confusion. You may also recognise Peele from his ultra romantic secret wedding to Brooklyn Nine-Nine’s Hilarious Chelsea Peretti.
Up until now the pair have limited themselves to the small screen, starring in their ingeniously named sketch show ‘Key and Peele’ on Comedy Central. It seems their road to the big screen was worth the wait, with Keanu in the running to potentially change the course of cinema as we know it (We can dream can’t we). The film follows two cousins who hatch a plan to masquerade as drug dealers in order to retrieve their stolen kitten. In the words of Keegan- Michael Key “Hilarity ensues”.
With a reputation for pushing the envelope, dismissing political correctness and fighting to challenge stereotypes it’s clear the new film will cleverly integrate life lessons we will be sure to bring back into the real world. If that doesn’t float your boat then buy a ticket just to experience the adorableness that is a Keanu. Truly a CGI cat worth fighting for.
The movie will be released in Australia later this month (May 19th), until then check out the comedy central website and and have a quick chuckle to yourself. The pair are joined by Method Man (Trainwreck, The Fast and the Furious ) and Will Forte (Saturday Night Live, Last Man on Earth) in an almost certainly perfect cast.
It’s pretty safe to say Keanu will be the cat movie to end all cat movies, RIP Nine Lives with Kevin Spacey, your reign was non-existent and slightly terrifying.
