For a long while now, there has been a growing curiosity as to the cast of the upcoming female focused Ocean’s Eleven reboot. Now it seems that Cate Blanchett is up for the Brad Pitt role.
Sandra Bullock was the first big name to be cast and it is rumoured that Jennifer Lawrence will also be involved. Now Cate Blanchett has joined the cast. The Lord of the Rings and Carol star is set to play the role equivalent to that of Brad Pitt in the original whilst Bullock will be George Clooney. Because the film is set to include eight thieves rather than eleven, the movie has been temporarily dubbed Ocean’s Ocho, Ocho meaning eight.
Though the studio is emphatic that Bullock and Blanchett will not be playing female versions of these characters, rather it is the dynamic between Pitt’s and Clooney’s characters that will be revisited.
If this spin-off is anything like the original, it will be packed with celebrities and with Bullock and Blanchett at the head, I can only guess at what other famous female names the project will attract.
Still Jennifer Lawrence’s supposed involvement is not confirmed. Rumors of scheduling conflicts have left confirmation hazy. Lawrence has a good relationship with director Gary Ross, the two having worked together on The Hunger Games.
What the film will be about is also up in the air at this point. It is all but certain that the idea of a heist will be recycled but whether these ladies are stealing money from a casino is still uncertain. According to rumors the premise is about stealing a necklace from the Met Ball but more than simply stealing it, they need to frame the gallery owner for the crime.
Regardless, the strong female cast set for this spin-off will be set to change the gender landscape in Hollywood for the better. Take a look at the 2001 original.
