In case you missed it, The Fate of the Furious debuted worldwide over the weekend and it brought in some pretty remarkable statistics. The eighth instalment of The Fast and The Furious franchise did not disappoint audiences around the globe.
According to reports, the film grossed $US532 million worldwide during its opening weekend and overtook Star Wars: The Force Awakens ($US529 million) for the record of the highest-grossing opening of all time.
It is said that the film took in $US432 million at international box offices. With no major competition in cinemas over the weekend, The Fate of the Furious reached number one in every area it was released in. The figure also beats the previous overseas record holder, Jurassic World and the $US316.6 million it made.
Fast and Furious 8 made over $US190 million in China and became the biggest opening for a Hollywood made film there. Made with a budget of $US250 million, the film was only expected to make $US400 million in the global market.
