With confirmation from QUEEN Amelia “Mia” Mignonette Thermopolis Renaldi herself, back in January, Princess Diaries 3 is officially a-go.
With QUEEN Julie Andrews also on board, the anticipation for this long-awaited sequel is building at an alarming rate. The first The Princess Diaries was released way back in 2001, and the sequel, The Princess Diaries 2: Royal Engagement in 2004, meaning fans have been deprived of Genovia and its pears for far too long now. Though Anne Hathaway went on the record to say members of the team were on board, and a script had been written, it’s probably still a while off until we get anything of real substance. Until then, here is a rundown of a few things that have to happen in part three of this whimsical royal adventure.
Musical Number
In Royal Engagement, audiences were graced by the voice of Queen Andrews, as herself and Raven Symone sang an epic karaoke number at Mia’s princess sleepover engagement party. Though tragically losing her angelic vocals in a surgery many years ago, Andrews performance was still graceful and regal, and to hear her again would be a great blessing.
The Romantic Interest
Believe me, I am all for a whole “I’m a strong, independent woman, who don’t need no man” storyline, and when Mia chose to rule alone, rather than get married out of necessity in Royal Engagement it was truly inspired. However, her chemistry with the ever-dreamy Chris Pine (best of the Hollywood Chris’) was undeniable, and if he does not return to the role of the dashing Nicholas Devereaux, then is there even a point of any romantic storyline?
P.s I hope Queen Clarice and Joe are happy and living their best lives.
The Orphanage Up and Running
After the parade in Royal Engagement, there is an epic moment of Princess power, when Mia commands a new orphanage be made out of one of the royal holiday palaces, until a permanent one could be built. This is one of Mia’s best moments in the film, as she flexes her royal authority, so it would be epic to see that actually come to fruition in PD3.
Fat Louie and Maurice
If the film wants to be a guaranteed success, it will have to – above all else – let us know what’s happening with Fat Louie the cat and Maurice the dog. Now, if we’re going to discuss this within the realm of reality, both characters of the franchise are most likely… well… not with us anymore. It’s been over a decade since the last film, so realistically they would have moved on to a higher place. Nonetheless, how realistic is it that a shy, American high schooler would discover she was a princess, and go on to lead a small European nation? Let’s throw logic out the window and accept that Louie and Maurice will be front and centre of the shenanigans of this upcoming princess journey.
Let us know what you’re most looking forward to in Princess Diaries 3.
