A new trailer for Christopher Nolan’s upcoming sci-fi action film Tenet is out, and moviegoers are hyped. Few details of the film are known, but by the look of things, Tenet is going to be insane.
Tenet is the upcoming project of Christopher Nolan, a sci-fi action film that will tell the story of a secret agent who must prevent World War III. The film stars John David Washington (who starred in BlacKkKlansman) as the protagonist, alongside Robert Pattinson, and Michael Caine and Kenneth Branagh in supporting roles.
Nolan is responsible for some of the greatest films of the past two decades, including The Dark Knight trilogy, Inception and Interstellar, and is one of the most respected and influential filmmakers working today. It’s easy to see why, as Nolan’s films are always insanely remarkable cinematic experiences. And, more often than not, his films are mind-bending and slightly confusing, but in a clever and thought-provoking way. This is a good thing, because it leaves audiences thinking about the film long after the credits roll.
With this in mind, Tenet looks just about as “Christopher Nolan” as you can get. And at a budget of $205 million, Tenet is Nolan’s most expensive film to date.
The trailer delivers everything you’d need to get hyped about a Christopher Nolan flick, without showing too much. In fact, very few details are known about the plot of the film, and Nolan is apparently very secretive about it. Robert Pattinson was only allowed to read the script while he was locked in a room alone, and doesn’t own a copy of it himself. So apparently, Nolan’s onto something big.
We do have something to go off, as a synopsis in the latest YouTube trailer says:
“Armed with only one word—Tenet—and fighting for the survival of the entire world, the Protagonist journeys through a twilight world of international espionage on a mission that will unfold in something beyond real time.”
Nolan has stated that with Tenet, he wants to subvert audiences’ expectations of the spy genre and “shatter them”. The cast of the film – including Washington and Pattinson – apparently had many questions for Nolan about the story during filming, which is saying something. It’s clear by now that Nolan likes to make his films ambiguous so they can live on in a viewer’s mind, but by the sound of it, Tenet will be the most thought-provoking one yet. I don’t know how that’s even possible after Inception, but I guess we’ll find out.
So, it goes without saying that Tenet will be yet another mind-bending work from Christopher Nolan, and I can’t wait to be confused.
Tenet is set for release on 17 July 2020, but it’s unclear whether the film will be delayed due to the coronavirus pandemic. Either way, check out the trailer below.
