The Venom sequel is coming, and the trailer is rife with chaos.
Officially titled Venom: Let There be Carnage, the film’s trailer displays the lead character tolerating life with the symbiote. As the trailer progresses, throughout a significant portion we hear a voice addressing the lead character. The voice is revealed to belong to an inmate. Fans may recognize him as Cletus Kasady, who made a cameo in the mid-credits of the previous film promising carnage upon escape.
Serving as a sequel, the film continues the story of the two leads extending beyond an introductory storyline. The film will explore the leads facing off against a dangerous threat who leaves behind a path of violence and destruction.
Let There Be Carnage
Tom Hardy reprises his role as the antihero Eddie Brock, host for the alien symbiote Venom. Possessing superhuman abilities through this connection, the two fight crime but often employ dastardly means to achieve their goal. Michele Williams is also set to return to her role of Anne Weying, Eddie Brock’s ex-fiancé. Other familiar faces include Reid Scott as Dan Lewis, and Peggy Lu as Mrs. Chen. Additionally, Woody Harrelson appears as Cletus Kasady, the antagonist of the film and host of another symbiote Carnage. Tom Harrelson was offered the role after the first film’s director Ruben Fleischer remembered the actor’s performance in the film Natural Born Killers.
Taking the director’s seat is actor Andy Serkis who replaces Ruben Fleischer. Andy Serkis is best known for roles such as Gollum/Smeagol in the Lord of the Rings franchise, and Kong in 2005 version of the film King Kong. He also played Ulysses Klaue in Marvel films Avengers: Age of Ultron and Black Panther. Other films where Andy Serkis has served as director include Breathe, and The Hobbit trilogy, where he took on the role of second unit director.
Producers of the film include Avi Arad, Matt Tolmach, Amy Pascal, Kelly Marcel, Tom Hardy and Hutch Parker. Matt Tolmach noted that part of the first film’s highlights for fans was the interactions and connection between Eddie Brock and Venom. Consequently, the sequel will incorporate and focus on this aspect.
Venom: Let There be Carnage is projected to hit theatres on the 24th of September 2021. Currently however, the trailer displays the release date as coming soon.
